I’m not a lawyer, nor am I a financial expert.  I’m not the CEO of a multi-billion dollar corporation and I don’t pretend to know how to adequately invest my own money.  However, I do manage to survive on what little I have left after paying taxes and know when I don’t have enough money to buy the latest greatest video game system. I also know that you and I, along with 78.6 percent of the rest of the population, realize that we’re in a world of trouble.  Let’s state the obvious . . . Republicans and Democrats cannot work together to solve even the most mundane problems we face.  Put them in a room together with Hangman on their overhead projector, draw three lines (____ ____ ____) and give them a clue that the first and last letters are ”T” and “E”.   Twelve hours later, you still won’t have an answer.  Sure, they all know what the answer is, but no one will agree on the answer.

Ok, we’re in the worst economic decline since the Great Depression (I personally think it’s worse, taking in all the factors that haven’t yet been made obvious, but I’m not the financial expert).  We have 435 Representatives, 100 Senators, a President and countless advisors . . . each with opinions, but none with enough balls (excuse me ladies) to put forth a plan that will actually work. You and I know what needs to be done, STOP SPENDING MONEY!  Here’s how it should be done (this is very brief, as I don’t  have the time or space to explain each step.  If you would like to know more, please post a comment).

  • An indendent, not Republican or Democrat, should be responsible for forming a committee to oversee all future government expenditures over $1,000,000.  No one in the committee will be an elected official.  Members will not feel they have a debt or obligation to any one group that may have been instrumental in getting them elected.
  • All pork barrel spending and all other wasteful spending aimed at appeasing special interest groups or campaign contributors will be stopped immediately.
  • All financial aid to foreign governments will be suspended immediately.  Each spending package will be reviewed by the above stated committee and reinstated if found to be in the best interest of the United States.
  • All non-essential (and there are a lot of them) government offices and employees will be closed and or fired.
  • The welfare and unemployment systems will be completely reorganized.  This will save tax payers and businesses millions of dollars.
  • Payment and benefits to Department of State employees living abroad will be reduced.  I worked for the Department of State for three years in Europe and Africa.  I know how much money is wasted by the Department of State and it must stop now.
  • Illegal aliens will receive no US taxpayer money, in any way, shape, form or capacity.  This includes welfare, free medical care, social security or reduced housing costs.
  • The government will not get involved with bailing out private businesses.  IT WILL NOT WORK!  All this is doing is reducing the value of the US Dollar, while providing play money to the top execs of failing businesses.  All companies, large and small, go out of business at some point.  How many businesses are still around that were started in 1776?  It’s the natural order of things.  Other companies will be created and will succeed in filling the gap left by the extinct company.  Sure, some of us will suffer financially during the interim, but it will be short lived.  Like the food chain, what will happen if we kill all the rabbits and replace them with gold fish?  A lot more harm than good will be done.  This is why we don’t mess with the natural order!

As stated, this isn’t a complete list.  It is though a list of actions that must be taken by our representatives in Washington if we are to see an end to this economic meltdown.  The recommendations put forth are those that you and I know should be enacted.  Why is it so easy for us to see the answers when no one representing us in Washington wants to? I’m going to start a new political party . . . anyone with me?
